Нет, художник неверно понял эти выражения. Он изобразил их буквально, в то время как они используются в переносном (образном) смысле.
Выражение «подвела постель» означает, что человек проспал, не смог вовремя встать, потому что ему было слишком комфортно в кровати. Художник же нарисовал, как постель в прямом смысле «подвела» мальчика к школе, то есть привела его, сопровождая.
Выражение «пролетел мимо школы» обычно означает, что кто-то очень быстро пробежал или проехал мимо. Художник же изобразил мальчика, который в прямом смысле летит по воздуху, как птица.
