30.5. При нанесении металлических покрытий с помощью электролиза иногда в конце процесса на некоторое время изменяют направление тока на противоположное. В результате поверхность становится более гладкой. Почему?
Решение. На поверхности металла всегда есть мелкие неровности. После изменения направления тока образовавшийся слой металла становится анодом и начинает растворяться. Выступы растворяются быстрее других участков, потому что поверхностная плотность заряда и напряженность электрического поля у выступов больше, чем у гладких участков или впадин. В результате поверхность металла становится более гладкой.

30.5. При нанесении металлического покрытия методом электролиза деталь, на которую наносится покрытие, является катодом, и на ней происходит осаждение металла из раствора электролита. В ходе этого процесса на поверхности образуются микроскопические неровности (выступы и впадины), так как осаждение не происходит идеально равномерно.
Когда в конце процесса направление тока изменяют на противоположное, покрытая деталь, бывшая катодом, становится анодом. Начинается обратный процесс — анодное растворение, при котором атомы нанесенного металла переходят обратно в раствор в виде ионов.
Ключевым фактором, приводящим к сглаживанию, является концентрация электрического заряда на остриях и выступах. На участках поверхности с большей кривизной (то есть на выступах) поверхностная плотность заряда и, как следствие, напряженность электрического поля оказываются значительно выше, чем на гладких участках или во впадинах. Более сильное электрическое поле у выступов интенсифицирует процесс их растворения. В результате выступы растворяются быстрее, чем остальная поверхность, что приводит к её выравниванию, или "электрохимической полировке". Таким образом, кратковременное обращение тока позволяет устранить микронеровности и сделать покрытие более гладким.
Ответ: При смене направления тока на противоположное, нанесенный слой металла становится анодом и начинает растворяться. Растворение происходит наиболее интенсивно на выступах, где из-за большей кривизны поверхности концентрируется электрический заряд и создается более сильное электрическое поле. Быстрое растворение выступов сглаживает поверхность.
