Relations sociales
Le mot «social» est relatif à une société, à une collectivité humaine. Les relations sociales dépendent beaucoup des études, du travail, des activités qu'on fait ensemble, du lieu où on habite et de ce qu'on fait de son temps libre. Mais tout dépend bien sûr de l'âge. La jeunesse est l'âge des relations sociales, l'âge des copains, l'âge des nouvelles connaissances. Aujourd'hui la jeunesse dure de plus en plus longtemps. En France, à 19 ans, 70 % des jeunes continuent leurs études. Et le nombre des relations amicales est plus important pour ceux qui vont à l'école que pour ceux qui travaillent. Avec qui est-on amis? Au collège, les enfants ont des amis de milieux sociaux différents. Dix ans après la fin des études, ce mélange social se réduit. L'âge adulte, c'est le temps des nouvelles relations — celles du travail; c'est aussi le moment où on a moins de temps libre. A l'âge adulte les amis appartiennent en général à des milieux sociaux proches, et aux mêmes catégories: les employés avec les employés, les trentenaires avec les trentenaires. Ainsi le mélange social se limite. Avec la retraite, les liens sociaux changent encore; les relations ce sont les parents proches, les voisins, les commerçants du quartier. On communique davantage avec ses voisins, surtout dans les villages. «Les nouveaux retraités» profitent de leur temps libre: ils voyagent beaucoup.
