Vladimir
La ville se trouve à 176 km à l'est de Moscou. La cité fut fondée au début du XIIe siècle par Vladimir Monomaque et surpasse rapidement ses puissantes voisines Souzdal et Rostov Véliky. C'est dans la cathédrale de la Dormition, construite en 1158, que se trouve la plus célèbre icône de la Sainte Russie, l'icône miraculeuse de la Vierge de Vladimir, protectrice du peuple et des terres slaves. Elle est aujourd'hui exposée à la galerie Tretiakov. Les monuments de Vladimir sont inscrits au patrimoine de l'UNESCO.

Rostov Véliky
A 200 km au nord-est de Moscou se trouve Rostov (le nom ancien de la ville est Rostov Véliky), l'une des plus anciennes villes de Russie qui est devenue la plus grande cité slave du XIe siècle. Parmi les curiosités à y découvrir, on peut citer la cathédrale de la Dormition datée du XIIe siècle, et le Kremlin du XVIe. Un hôtel dans le monastère accueille les touristes.
