Пусть дана пирамида $SABCD$, где $ABCD$ – квадратное основание, а боковое ребро $SA$ перпендикулярно плоскости основания $(ABC)$. Тогда $SA$ является высотой пирамиды. Обозначим высоту $H = SA$, а сторону основания $AB = a$.
Поскольку ребро $SA$ перпендикулярно плоскости основания, оно перпендикулярно любой прямой в этой плоскости, в частности $SA ? AB$ и $SA ? AD$. Это означает, что боковые грани $SAB$ и $SAD$ являются прямоугольными треугольниками с прямым углом при вершине $A$.
В условии сказано, что плоскость боковой грани, не проходящей через высоту пирамиды, наклонена к плоскости основания под углом 45°. Высотой является ребро $SA$, значит, речь идет о гранях $SBC$ или $SDC$.

Тогда по теореме Пифагора для $?SAC$: $SC^2 = SA^2 + AC^2 = a^2 + (a\sqrt{2})^2 = a^2 + 2a^2 = 3a^2$, откуда $SC = a\sqrt{3}$.
Сравнивая длины боковых рёбер $a$, $a\sqrt{2}$ и $a\sqrt{3}$, заключаем, что наибольшее боковое ребро – это $SC$. По условию его длина равна 12 см. $SC = a\sqrt{3} = 12$. Из этого уравнения находим сторону основания $a$: $a = \frac{12}{\sqrt{3}} = \frac{12\sqrt{3}}{3} = 4\sqrt{3}$ см.
а) высоту пирамиды;
Высота пирамиды $H$ равна $SA$. Ранее мы установили, что $H = SA = a$. Поскольку $a = 4\sqrt{3}$ см, то и высота $H = 4\sqrt{3}$ см.
Ответ: $4\sqrt{3}$ см.
б) площадь боковой поверхности пирамиды.
Площадь боковой поверхности $S_бок$ равна сумме площадей четырех боковых граней: $S_{бок} = S_{SAB} + S_{SAD} + S_{SBC} + S_{SDC}$.
Площади граней $SAB$ и $SAD$ – это площади равных прямоугольных треугольников с катетами $a$ и $a$: $S_{SAB} = S_{SAD} = \frac{1}{2} \cdot SA \cdot AB = \frac{1}{2} a \cdot a = \frac{1}{2}a^2$.
Площади граней $SBC$ и $SDC$ – это площади равных прямоугольных треугольников ($?SBC = ?SDC = 90°$) с катетами $a$ и $a\sqrt{2}$: $S_{SBC} = S_{SDC} = \frac{1}{2} \cdot BC \cdot SB = \frac{1}{2} a \cdot (a\sqrt{2}) = \frac{a^2\sqrt{2}}{2}$.
Общая площадь боковой поверхности: $S_{бок} = 2 \cdot S_{SAB} + 2 \cdot S_{SBC} = 2 \cdot (\frac{1}{2}a^2) + 2 \cdot (\frac{a^2\sqrt{2}}{2})$ $S_{бок} = a^2 + a^2\sqrt{2} = a^2(1 + \sqrt{2})$.
