Почему, когда мы смотрим в зеркало, правое и левое меняются местами, а верх и низ нет?
Это популярное заблуждение. На самом деле, плоское зеркало не меняет местами левое и правое. Оно инвертирует (обращает) изображение вдоль оси, перпендикулярной его поверхности. Проще говоря, оно меняет местами «перед» и «зад».
Представьте, что вы стоите перед вертикальным зеркалом. Ось «верх-низ» параллельна поверхности зеркала, поэтому ваше отражение тоже стоит прямо: голова отражения находится наверху, а ноги — внизу. Верх и низ не поменялись местами.
Теперь рассмотрим ось «вперед-назад». Если вы сделаете шаг к зеркалу, ваше отражение тоже сделает шаг к вам. Если вы протянете руку вперед, рука отражения будет двигаться вам навстречу. Направление «вперед» для вас стало направлением «назад» для вашего отражения. Именно эта ось инвертируется.
Так откуда же берется путаница с «лево» и «право»? Она возникает из-за того, как мы себя воспринимаем. Когда вы поднимаете правую руку, ваше отражение тоже поднимает свою правую руку. Но из-за инверсии «вперед-назад» эта рука отражения находится на той стороне, которая с вашей точки зрения является левой. Мы мысленно пытаемся «повернуть» отражение и поставить его на свое место, а такой поворот вокруг вертикальной оси как раз и меняет местами левую и правую стороны.
Ответ: Зеркало инвертирует не левое и правое, а переднее и заднее (направление, перпендикулярное зеркалу). Оси «верх-низ» и «лево-право» параллельны зеркалу, поэтому они не инвертируются. Кажущаяся смена левого и правого — это особенность нашего восприятия трехмерного отражения, инвертированного по глубине.
А что произойдёт, если мы встанем на зеркальный пол?
Если мы встанем на зеркальный пол, зеркало будет расположено горизонтально. В этом случае осью, перпендикулярной зеркалу, станет ось «верх-низ».
Применяя тот же принцип, что и выше, мы можем заключить, что зеркальный пол будет инвертировать изображение именно вдоль вертикальной оси.
- Ваша голова, находящаяся вверху, в отражении окажется внизу.
- Ваши ноги, касающиеся зеркального пола, в отражении будут тоже «касаться» пола, но будут направлены вверх, навстречу вашим реальным ногам.
- Оси «лево-право» и «вперед-назад» теперь будут параллельны поверхности зеркала, а значит, они инвертироваться не будут. Если вы посмотрите вниз и помашете правой рукой, то и ваше отражение помашет своей правой рукой, и она будет находиться с той же (правой) стороны.
Ответ: Если мы встанем на зеркальный пол, то верх и низ поменяются местами, а левое и правое — нет. В отражении мы увидим себя перевернутыми с ног на голову.
