Взаимное расположение двух прямых в трехмерном пространстве можно классифицировать на основе количества их общих точек и того, лежат ли они в одной плоскости. Существует три основных случая для различных прямых и один вырожденный случай, когда прямые совпадают.
Пересекающиеся прямые
Две прямые называются пересекающимися, если они имеют ровно одну общую точку. Важным свойством пересекающихся прямых является то, что они всегда лежат в одной плоскости. Через две пересекающиеся прямые можно провести единственную плоскость. Если прямые $a$ и $b$ пересекаются в точке $M$, это можно записать как $a \cap b = \{M\}$.
Ответ: Прямые лежат в одной плоскости и имеют одну общую точку.
Параллельные прямые
Две прямые в пространстве называются параллельными, если они лежат в одной плоскости и не пересекаются, то есть не имеют ни одной общей точки. Обозначение параллельности прямых $a$ и $b$ — $a \parallel b$. Условие параллельности означает, что существует плоскость $\alpha$, которой принадлежат обе прямые ($a \subset \alpha$ и $b \subset \alpha$), и при этом их пересечение пусто ($a \cap b = \emptyset$). Через две параллельные прямые также проходит единственная плоскость.

Скрещивающиеся прямые

Если прямые $a$ и $b$ скрещиваются, то они не имеют общих точек ($a \cap b = \emptyset$) и не существует плоскости, которая содержала бы обе эти прямые. Классическим примером являются два непересекающихся и непараллельных ребра куба.

Совпадающие прямые
Это частный (вырожденный) случай, когда две прямые являются одной и той же прямой. В этом случае они имеют бесконечное множество общих точек — все свои точки. Если прямые $a$ и $b$ совпадают, это записывается как $a = b$.
