The Trumpet
Protests over dump plans
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the village of Little Haven yesterday to show their anger. They are furious about council plans to open a new rubbish dump near the village. ‘It will ruin our beautiful village, and who knows what health problems it will cause?’ complained one local resident. However, the council argue they have nowhere else to put the waste.
You have read articles in The Trumpet newspaper about the problem of what to do with the rubbish. Write a letter to the editor saying what you think should be done about it.

Here are my ideas on what should be done about the rubbish problem:
- Introduce more comprehensive recycling programs to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills. (Внедрить более комплексные программы переработки, чтобы уменьшить количество отходов, отправляемых на свалки.)
- Explore composting options for organic waste to turn it into useful soil. (Рассмотреть варианты компостирования органических отходов, чтобы превратить их в полезную почву.)
- Investigate modern waste-to-energy facilities, which can safely burn non-recyclable waste to produce energy, if suitable for the area. (Изучить современные установки по переработке отходов в энергию, которые могут безопасно сжигать неперерабатываемые отходы для производства энергии, если это подходит для данной местности.)
- Look for alternative, more remote locations for a new rubbish dump, far from residential areas and natural beauty spots. (Искать альтернативные, более удаленные места для новой мусорной свалки, вдали от жилых районов и природных красот.)
- Launch public awareness campaigns to educate residents about reducing waste, reusing items, and proper recycling techniques. (Запустить кампании по информированию общественности, чтобы обучить жителей сокращению отходов, повторному использованию предметов и правильным методам переработки.)
