Образование звёзд в настоящее время происходит в гигантских молекулярных облаках, также известных как звёздные колыбели или туманности. Эти облака представляют собой обширные, холодные и плотные скопления межзвёздного газа (в основном водорода и гелия) и пыли.
Процесс звездообразования начинается, когда в таком облаке возникает гравитационная неустойчивость. Под действием собственной гравитации более плотные участки облака начинают сжиматься. Этот процесс может быть запущен внешними факторами, такими как ударная волна от взрыва сверхновой, столкновение галактик или звёздный ветер от массивных звёзд.
В ходе сжатия (коллапса) облако фрагментируется на множество сгустков, которые, продолжая сжиматься, превращаются в протозвезды. В центре протозвезды температура и давление растут, и когда они достигают значений, достаточных для запуска термоядерных реакций (превращения водорода в гелий), протозвезда становится полноценной звездой.
Такие области активного звездообразования в основном сосредоточены в спиральных рукавах галактик, подобных нашему Млечному Пути, где концентрация газа и пыли наиболее высока. Яркими примерами таких регионов являются Туманность Ориона, Туманность Киля и знаменитые «Столпы Творения» в Туманности Орла.
Ответ: В настоящее время образование звёзд происходит в плотных и холодных гигантских молекулярных облаках (туманностях), состоящих из газа и пыли, которые преимущественно находятся в спиральных рукавах галактик.
