При ввинчивании шурупа в материал, особенно в плотный, такой как древесина твердых пород, возникает значительная сила трения между резьбой шурупа и материалом. Эта сила трения создает сопротивление, которое необходимо преодолеть, прикладывая крутящий момент к шурупу. Чем больше сила трения, тем больше усилий требуется для ввинчивания.
Мыло в этом процессе выполняет функцию смазки. Смазочные материалы предназначены для уменьшения коэффициента трения между двумя контактирующими поверхностями. Когда мастер смазывает резьбу шурупа мылом, между металлом шурупа и материалом детали образуется тонкий слой, который значительно снижает трение.
