Для ответа на этот вопрос необходимо различать физическую характеристику звука (силу или интенсивность) и физиологическую характеристику (громкость).
Сила (интенсивность) звука
Сила звука, или интенсивность, — это объективная физическая величина. Она определяется энергией, которую звуковая волна переносит через единицу площади поверхности, перпендикулярной направлению распространения волны, за единицу времени. Интенсивность измеряется в ваттах на квадратный метр ($W/m^2$).
Поскольку в задаче указан один и тот же источник звука, и можно предположить, что пожилой и молодой человек находятся на одинаковом расстоянии от него, то интенсивность звуковой волны, достигающей их ушей, будет абсолютно одинаковой. Эта характеристика зависит только от источника и среды распространения, а не от слушателя.
Ответ: Сила (интенсивность) звука для пожилого и молодого человека одинакова.
Громкость звука
Громкость — это субъективное ощущение, которое зависит от восприятия звука слуховым аппаратом конкретного человека. Громкость зависит не только от интенсивности звука, но и от его частоты, а также от индивидуальных особенностей слуха слушателя, включая его возраст и состояние здоровья.
С возрастом чувствительность слуха, как правило, снижается, особенно в области высоких частот (это явление называется пресбиакузис). Поэтому при одной и той же физической интенсивности звука пожилой человек, скорее всего, будет воспринимать этот звук как менее громкий по сравнению с молодым человеком, у которого слух острее. Именно это различие в восприятии и означает, что они "слышат по-разному".
Ответ: Громкость звука для пожилого и молодого человека различна.
