Для того чтобы Кате и Жене перебраться на остров, им необходимо использовать геометрию углов квадратного пруда. Поскольку доски немного короче ширины пролива, прямой мост от берега к острову построить нельзя. Решение заключается в создании составного моста с опорой, выдвинутой в сторону острова.
Решение
План действий следующий:
- Нужно подойти к одному из углов пруда.
- Первую доску следует положить так, чтобы она соединяла два смежных берега у этого угла, располагаясь над водой. Один конец доски будет на одном берегу, а другой — на другом. Таким образом, доска образует "срез" угла и становится устойчивой опорой.
- Вторую доску нужно положить одним концом на середину первой доски, а другим концом она без проблем дотянется до берега острова. После этого по получившемуся мосту можно перейти на остров.
Обоснование
Эта конструкция эффективна, так как первая доска создает опору, смещенную от угла берега по диагонали к центру пруда. Это сокращает расстояние, которое необходимо преодолеть второй доске.
Приведем математическое доказательство. Пусть ширина пролива равна $W$, а длина доски — $L$. По условию, $L$ немного меньше $W$ (то есть $L \approx W$).

Когда мы кладем первую доску поперек угла, ее середина максимально удалена от берега. Концы доски находятся в точках $(x, 0)$ и $(0, x)$. По теореме Пифагора, длина доски $L^2 = x^2 + x^2 = 2x^2$, следовательно, $x = L/\sqrt{2}$. Середина этой доски находится в точке $M$ с координатами $(x/2, x/2)$, то есть $(L/(2\sqrt{2}), L/(2\sqrt{2}))$.
Расстояние от угла берега (0,0) до точки $M$ по диагонали составляет $d = \sqrt{(L/(2\sqrt{2}))^2 + (L/(2\sqrt{2}))^2} = \sqrt{2 \cdot L^2/8} = \sqrt{L^2/4} = L/2$.
Таким образом, мы создали опору, выдвинутую на расстояние $L/2$ к центру пруда. От этой точки мы кладем вторую доску длиной $L$. Суммарная "дальность" нашей конструкции по диагонали составляет $L/2 + L = 1.5L$.
Сравним дальность моста с расстоянием до угла острова: $1.5L$ и $W\sqrt{2}$. Поскольку $L \approx W$, а $\sqrt{2} \approx 1.414$, получаем, что $1.5L > 1.414W$. Это означает, что длины досок достаточно для постройки моста до угла острова.
Ответ: Нужно положить одну доску поперек угла пруда (от одного берега к другому), а вторую доску положить одним концом на середину первой доски, а другим — на остров.
