Пусть в треугольнике $ABC$ проведены две высоты $AD$ и $BE$ к прямым, содержащим стороны $BC$ и $AC$ соответственно. По условию, длины этих высот равны: $AD = BE$. Требуется доказать, что треугольник $ABC$ является равнобедренным, то есть что стороны $AC$ и $BC$ равны.
Рассмотрим два прямоугольных треугольника: $\triangle ADC$ и $\triangle BEC$.
Эти треугольники являются прямоугольными, так как $AD$ и $BE$ — высоты, а значит, по определению они перпендикулярны сторонам, к которым проведены: $\angle ADC = \angle BEC = 90^\circ$.
Сравним эти два треугольника. У них:
- $AD = BE$ (равенство катетов по условию задачи).
- Угол при вершине $C$ является общим для обоих треугольников ($\angle ACD = \angle BCE$). Если угол $C$ острый, то это непосредственно угол $\angle ACB$. Если угол $C$ тупой, то высоты опущены на продолжения сторон, и углы $\angle ACD$ и $\angle BCE$ равны как углы, смежные с одним и тем же углом $\angle ACB$ (их величина равна $180^\circ - \angle ACB$).
Таким образом, прямоугольные треугольники $\triangle ADC$ и $\triangle BEC$ равны по катету и противолежащему острому углу (этот признак является частным случаем признака равенства треугольников по стороне и двум прилежащим углам, поскольку если равны два угла, то равны и третьи).
Из равенства треугольников ($\triangle ADC \cong \triangle BEC$) следует и равенство их соответствующих сторон. В частности, равны их гипотенузы, которые являются сторонами исходного треугольника $ABC$:
$AC = BC$.
Поскольку в треугольнике $ABC$ две стороны равны, он является равнобедренным по определению. Что и требовалось доказать.
