Эрнест Резерфорд пришел к выводу о положительном заряде атомного ядра на основе анализа результатов эксперимента по рассеянию альфа-частиц на тонкой золотой фольге, который был проведен под его руководством в 1909–1911 годах.
Ключевым наблюдением, которое привело к этому выводу, был тот факт, что небольшая часть альфа-частиц, являющихся положительно заряженными ядрами атомов гелия ($q_{\alpha} > 0$), при пролете через фольгу отклонялась на очень большие углы, а некоторые даже отскакивали назад.
Такое сильное отклонение можно было объяснить только наличием мощной силы отталкивания. Согласно закону Кулона, сила отталкивания возникает между одноименными зарядами. Поскольку альфа-частицы заряжены положительно, то и центр, от которого они отталкивались, должен быть заряжен положительно.
Это наблюдение противоречило существовавшей тогда модели атома Томсона и привело Резерфорда к созданию планетарной модели. В этой модели предполагалось, что почти вся масса и весь положительный заряд атома сосредоточены в очень малом объеме в его центре — ядре. Именно кулоновское отталкивание между положительно заряженным ядром и налетающей на него положительно заряженной альфа-частицей и вызывало наблюдаемое рассеяние.
Ответ: Резерфорд сделал вывод, что атомное ядро заряжено положительно, потому что в его экспериментах положительно заряженные альфа-частицы отталкивались от центральной части атома. Такое отталкивание (рассеяние на большие углы) могло быть вызвано только электростатической силой, действующей между одноименными зарядами, следовательно, ядро, как и альфа-частица, должно иметь положительный заряд.
