Общее между β- и γ-излучениями:
1. Происхождение: Оба вида излучения возникают в результате процессов, происходящих внутри атомных ядер при радиоактивных распадах. Они испускаются нестабильными ядрами, переходящими в более стабильное состояние.
2. Ионизирующая способность: И β-, и γ-излучения являются ионизирующими. Они обладают достаточной энергией, чтобы выбивать электроны из атомов и молекул вещества, через которое проходят, создавая ионы. Это свойство делает их опасными для живых организмов.
3. Сохранение массового числа: При β-распаде и γ-распаде массовое число ($\text{A}$) ядра не изменяется. При β-распаде один из нуклонов (нейтрон или протон) превращается в другой, а при γ-распаде ядро просто переходит из возбужденного состояния в основное.
Различия между β- и γ-излучениями:
1. Физическая природа и состав:
• β-излучение – это поток частиц: электронов (при β⁻-распаде) или позитронов (при β⁺-распаде). Эти частицы имеют массу покоя и электрический заряд.
• γ-излучение – это поток фотонов (квантов) высокочастотного электромагнитного излучения. Фотоны не имеют массы покоя и электрического заряда.
2. Электрический заряд:
• β-частицы заряжены. Электроны несут отрицательный заряд ($-e$), а позитроны – положительный ($+e$). Из-за этого они отклоняются в электрических и магнитных полях.
• γ-кванты электрически нейтральны, поэтому они не отклоняются в электрических и магнитных полях.
3. Масса покоя:
• β-частицы имеют массу покоя, равную массе электрона ($m_e \approx 9.11 \cdot 10^{-31}$ кг).
• γ-кванты (фотоны) не имеют массы покоя ($m_0 = 0$).
4. Скорость:
• Скорость β-частиц может быть очень большой, достигая 99% от скорости света в вакууме ($\text{c}$), но всегда меньше $\text{c}$.
• γ-излучение распространяется со скоростью света в вакууме ($c \approx 3 \cdot 10^8$ м/с).
5. Проникающая способность:
• β-излучение обладает средней проникающей способностью. Его может остановить лист алюминия толщиной в несколько миллиметров.
• γ-излучение обладает очень высокой проникающей способностью. Для защиты от него требуются толстые слои плотных материалов, таких как свинец или бетон.
6. Ионизирующая способность:
• β-излучение имеет более высокую ионизирующую способность, чем γ-излучение. Заряженные частицы активнее взаимодействуют с атомами вещества.
• γ-излучение имеет относительно низкую ионизирующую способность. Фотоны взаимодействуют с веществом реже, но при взаимодействии могут передать значительную энергию.
7. Механизм возникновения:
• β-распад изменяет состав ядра: изменяется число протонов ($\text{Z}$) на единицу, а следовательно, происходит превращение одного химического элемента в другой. Например, ${}_{6}^{14}\text{C} \to {}_{7}^{14}\text{N} + e^- + \bar{\nu}_e$.
• γ-излучение сопровождает переход ядра из возбужденного энергетического состояния в более стабильное (с меньшей энергией), при этом состав ядра (число протонов и нейтронов) не меняется.
