По определению, круговой сектор — это часть круга, ограниченная дугой и двумя радиусами, соединяющими концы дуги с центром круга. В свою очередь, круговой сегмент — это часть круга, ограниченная дугой и хордой, соединяющей концы этой дуги.
Чтобы сектор совпадал с сегментом, их границы должны быть идентичны. Это означает, что два радиуса, ограничивающие сектор, должны вместе образовывать хорду, которая ограничивает сегмент.
Два радиуса, выходящие из центра, образуют одну прямую линию (то есть хорду) только в том случае, если угол между ними равен $180^\circ$. Такая хорда, проходящая через центр, является диаметром круга.
