Первый закон Ньютона, также известный как закон инерции, является фундаментальным законом классической механики. Он описывает поведение тел в отсутствие внешних сил или при их полной компенсации.
Наиболее полная формулировка первого закона Ньютона звучит следующим образом:
«Существуют такие системы отсчёта, называемые инерциальными, относительно которых материальная точка, при отсутствии на неё внешних воздействий (или при их взаимной компенсации), сохраняет состояние покоя или равномерного прямолинейного движения».
Этот закон содержит несколько ключевых утверждений:
- Постулат о существовании инерциальных систем отсчета (ИСО). Это главное содержание закона. Он не просто описывает явление инерции, а утверждает, что в природе существуют такие системы отсчета, в которых это явление наблюдается в «чистом» виде. В других, неинерциальных системах отсчета (например, в автомобиле, который разгоняется или поворачивает), тело может изменять свою скорость даже при отсутствии реальных сил, что объясняется введением фиктивных сил инерции.

- Сила как причина изменения скорости. Из закона логически вытекает, что единственной причиной изменения скорости тела, то есть причиной его ускорения, является действие на него силы (или сил, равнодействующая которых не равна нулю). Этот аспект подробно раскрывается во втором законе Ньютона.
