Условие задачи допускает два варианта толкования, которые зависят от взаимного расположения граней, диагонали которых образуют сечение. Сечение может проходить через диагонали двух противоположных или двух смежных граней. Рассмотрим оба этих случая.
Случай 1: Сечение проходит через диагонали двух противоположных гранейПусть нам дан куб $ABCDA_1B_1C_1D_1$ с длиной ребра, равной $a$. Возьмем две противоположные грани куба, например, нижнюю $ABCD$ и верхнюю $A_1B_1C_1D_1$. Проведем в этих гранях диагонали $AC$ и $A_1C_1$.
Поскольку грани $ABCD$ и $A_1B_1C_1D_1$ параллельны и равны, то диагонали $AC$ и $A_1C_1$ также параллельны и равны. Через две параллельные прямые можно провести единственную плоскость. Эта плоскость образует сечение $ACC_1A_1$. Фигура $ACC_1A_1$ является прямоугольником, так как ребра $AA_1$ и $CC_1$ перпендикулярны плоскости основания, а значит, и прямой $AC$, лежащей в этой плоскости.
Найдем стороны этого прямоугольника. Одна сторона, $AA_1$, является ребром куба, ее длина равна $a$. Другая сторона, $AC$, является диагональю грани (квадрата) $ABCD$. Найдем ее длину по теореме Пифагора для прямоугольного треугольника $ABC$ (угол $B$ прямой):
$AC = \sqrt{AB^2 + BC^2} = \sqrt{a^2 + a^2} = \sqrt{2a^2} = a\sqrt{2}$.
Площадь сечения (прямоугольника $ACC_1A_1$) равна произведению длин его смежных сторон:
$S_1 = AA_1 \cdot AC = a \cdot a\sqrt{2} = a^2\sqrt{2}$.
Ответ: $a^2\sqrt{2}$.
Рассмотрим тот же куб $ABCDA_1B_1C_1D_1$. Возьмем две смежные (имеющие общее ребро) грани, например, грань $ABCD$ и грань $ADD_1A_1$. Чтобы диагонали этих граней лежали в одной плоскости, они должны пересекаться. Это возможно, если они выходят из общей вершины, в данном случае — из вершины $A$. Возьмем диагональ $AC$ грани $ABCD$ и диагональ $AD_1$ грани $ADD_1A_1$.
Через две пересекающиеся прямые $AC$ и $AD_1$ проходит единственная плоскость. Эта плоскость отсекает от куба треугольник $ACD_1$. Найдем длины сторон этого треугольника.
- Сторона $AC$ — это диагональ грани $ABCD$. Как мы уже рассчитали в первом случае, ее длина равна $a\sqrt{2}$.
- Сторона $AD_1$ — это диагональ грани $ADD_1A_1$. Так как эта грань также является квадратом со стороной $a$, ее диагональ имеет такую же длину: $AD_1 = a\sqrt{2}$.
- Сторона $CD_1$ соединяет вершины $C$ и $D_1$. Она является диагональю грани $CDD_1C_1$. Следовательно, ее длина также равна $CD_1 = a\sqrt{2}$.
Все три стороны треугольника $ACD_1$ равны $a\sqrt{2}$, значит, этот треугольник является равносторонним.
Площадь равностороннего треугольника со стороной $s$ находится по формуле $S = \frac{s^2\sqrt{3}}{4}$. Подставим в нее длину стороны $s = a\sqrt{2}$:
$S_2 = \frac{(a\sqrt{2})^2\sqrt{3}}{4} = \frac{2a^2\sqrt{3}}{4} = \frac{a^2\sqrt{3}}{2}$.
Ответ: $\frac{a^2\sqrt{3}}{2}$.
Таким образом, из-за неоднозначности формулировки в условии, задача имеет два возможных решения.
