Найдите отрезок $AB$.

Пусть сторона основания $ABCD$, которое является квадратом, равна $a$. Таким образом, искомый отрезок $AB = a$. По условию задачи, точка $M$ — середина ребра $AB$, а точка $K$ — середина ребра $AD$. Следовательно, длины отрезков $AM$ и $AK$ равны: $AM = \frac{AB}{2} = \frac{a}{2}$ $AK = \frac{AD}{2} = \frac{a}{2}$
Секущая плоскость, назовем ее $\beta$, проходит через прямую $MK$ и пересекает три боковых ребра параллелепипеда. Поскольку прямая $MK$ лежит в плоскости основания, а плоскость $\beta$ наклонена к основанию, она будет пересекать те боковые ребра, которые "возвышаются" над большей частью основания, отделенной прямой $MK$. Это ребра $BB_1$, $DD_1$ и $CC_1$. Пусть точки пересечения плоскости $\beta$ с этими ребрами будут $P$, $Q$ и $R$ соответственно. Тогда получившееся сечение является пятиугольником $MKQRP$.
Для решения задачи воспользуемся теоремой о площади ортогональной проекции многоугольника. Площадь проекции сечения на плоскость основания ($S_{пр}$) связана с площадью самого сечения ($S$) и углом $\alpha$ между плоскостью сечения и плоскостью основания следующим соотношением: $S_{пр} = S \cdot \cos \alpha$
Ортогональной проекцией сечения $MKQRP$ на плоскость основания $ABC$ является пятиугольник $MKDCB$. Найдем его площадь. Площадь этого пятиугольника можно вычислить как разность площади всего квадрата $ABCD$ и площади треугольника $AMK$.
Площадь квадрата $ABCD$ равна: $S_{ABCD} = a^2$
Треугольник $AMK$ является прямоугольным, так как угол $\angle A$ прямой ($\angle DAB = 90^{\circ}$). Его площадь равна: $S_{\triangle AMK} = \frac{1}{2} \cdot AM \cdot AK = \frac{1}{2} \cdot \frac{a}{2} \cdot \frac{a}{2} = \frac{a^2}{8}$
Теперь можем найти площадь проекции сечения: $S_{пр} = S_{ABCD} - S_{\triangle AMK} = a^2 - \frac{a^2}{8} = \frac{7a^2}{8}$
Приравняем два полученных выражения для площади проекции: $\frac{7a^2}{8} = S \cdot \cos \alpha$
Остается выразить из этого уравнения сторону $a$, которая равна длине отрезка $AB$: $a^2 = \frac{8S \cos \alpha}{7}$ $a = \sqrt{\frac{8S \cos \alpha}{7}}$
Ответ: $AB = \sqrt{\frac{8S \cos \alpha}{7}}$.
