Пусть $h$ — искомое боковое ребро прямого параллелепипеда, а $d_1$ и $d_2$ — диагонали ромба, лежащего в основании.
Площадь ромба $S$ вычисляется по формуле: $S = \frac{1}{2}d_1 d_2$.
Так как параллелепипед прямой, его боковые ребра перпендикулярны основанию. Это означает, что диагональные сечения являются прямоугольниками. Сторонами этих прямоугольников являются диагонали основания ($d_1$ и $d_2$) и боковое ребро $h$.
Площади диагональных сечений $S_1$ и $S_2$ равны произведениям их сторон:
$S_1 = d_1 \cdot h$
$S_2 = d_2 \cdot h$
Из этих двух уравнений выразим длины диагоналей $d_1$ и $d_2$ через площади сечений и боковое ребро:
