Использованные батарейки нельзя утилизировать как бытовой мусор, поскольку они являются опасными отходами. В их состав входят тяжёлые металлы и токсичные химические вещества, такие как ртуть, свинец, кадмий, никель, цинк, а также агрессивные щелочи или кислоты.
Когда батарейка, выброшенная с обычным мусором, попадает на свалку, её герметичный корпус со временем разрушается под воздействием коррозии. В результате этого вредные вещества проникают в почву и грунтовые воды, отравляя их. Считается, что одна пальчиковая батарейка способна загрязнить тяжёлыми металлами около 20 квадратных метров земли или 400 литров воды. Эти токсичные вещества могут накапливаться в растениях и организмах животных, а затем по пищевой цепи попадать к человеку, вызывая серьёзные проблемы со здоровьем.
Если мусор сжигают, то токсичные компоненты из батареек попадают в атмосферу в виде ядовитого дыма, что приводит к загрязнению воздуха.
Специализированные контейнеры необходимы для того, чтобы собрать отработанные батарейки отдельно и отправить их на переработку. На специальных предприятиях из них извлекают ценные материалы для повторного использования, а опасные вещества нейтрализуют безопасным способом. Это позволяет предотвратить загрязнение окружающей среды и сохранить природные ресурсы.
Ответ: Использованные батарейки содержат опасные для окружающей среды и здоровья человека вещества (тяжёлые металлы, щёлочи, кислоты), которые при попадании на свалку или мусоросжигательный завод отравляют почву, воду и воздух.
