1. Наша планета Земля является огромным магнитом, который создает вокруг себя магнитное поле. Силовые линии этого поля выходят из района южного географического полюса и входят в районе северного. Магнитная стрелка компаса — это, по сути, маленький постоянный магнит, который может свободно вращаться. Попадая в магнитное поле Земли, он, как и любой другой магнит, стремится расположиться вдоль его силовых линий. Именно поэтому северный полюс стрелки компаса всегда указывает на северный магнитный полюс Земли (который находится вблизи северного географического полюса), а южный — на южный.
Ответ: Стрелка компаса, будучи маленьким магнитом, ориентируется вдоль силовых линий магнитного поля Земли.
2. Магнитные полюсы Земли не совпадают с её географическими полюсами. Важно помнить, что с точки зрения физики, тот магнитный полюс, что находится вблизи Северного географического полюса, является южным полюсом земного магнита (поскольку он притягивает северный полюс стрелки компаса). По состоянию на начало 2020-х годов, Северный магнитный полюс находится в Северном Ледовитом океане и продолжает двигаться в сторону Сибири. Южный магнитный полюс (который является северным полюсом земного магнита) расположен у побережья Антарктиды, в море Дюрвиля.
Ответ: Магнитные полюсы находятся в приполярных областях, но не совпадают с географическими полюсами: Северный магнитный полюс — в Арктике, Южный магнитный полюс — у берегов Антарктиды.
3. Нет, положения магнитных полюсов Земли не являются постоянными. Они постоянно смещаются, или дрейфуют, из-за сложных динамических процессов в жидком внешнем ядре планеты, которое состоит в основном из железа и никеля. Это явление называется вековой вариацией магнитного поля. Например, за последние десятилетия скорость дрейфа Северного магнитного полюса значительно возросла. Более того, в геологической истории Земли магнитные полюса неоднократно менялись местами — этот процесс называется инверсией магнитного поля.
Ответ: Нет, положения магнитных полюсов постоянно изменяются (дрейфуют) из-за движения расплавленного металла в ядре Земли.
