а) Чтобы найти корни уравнения $x^2 - 5x - 24 = 0$, мы будем использовать формулу корней квадратного уравнения. Сначала вычислим дискриминант $D$.
Для данного уравнения коэффициенты равны: $a=1$, $b=-5$, $c=-24$.
Формула дискриминанта: $D = b^2 - 4ac$.
Подставляем наши значения: $D = (-5)^2 - 4 \cdot 1 \cdot (-24) = 25 + 96 = 121$.
Так как $D > 0$, уравнение имеет два различных корня. Корень из дискриминанта: $\sqrt{D} = \sqrt{121} = 11$.
Корни находим по формуле $x_{1,2} = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{D}}{2a}$.
$x_1 = \frac{-(-5) + 11}{2 \cdot 1} = \frac{5 + 11}{2} = \frac{16}{2} = 8$.
$x_2 = \frac{-(-5) - 11}{2 \cdot 1} = \frac{5 - 11}{2} = \frac{-6}{2} = -3$.

б) Решим уравнение $x^2 - 13x + 42 = 0$. Коэффициенты: $a=1$, $b=-13$, $c=42$.
Вычислим дискриминант по формуле $D = b^2 - 4ac$:
$D = (-13)^2 - 4 \cdot 1 \cdot 42 = 169 - 168 = 1$.
Так как $D > 0$, уравнение имеет два различных корня. $\sqrt{D} = \sqrt{1} = 1$.
Найдем корни по формуле $x_{1,2} = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{D}}{2a}$:
$x_1 = \frac{-(-13) + 1}{2 \cdot 1} = \frac{13 + 1}{2} = \frac{14}{2} = 7$.
$x_2 = \frac{-(-13) - 1}{2 \cdot 1} = \frac{13 - 1}{2} = \frac{12}{2} = 6$.
Ответ: 6; 7.
в) Решим уравнение $0.5x^2 + 2x + 2 = 0$. Чтобы избавиться от десятичной дроби, умножим обе части уравнения на 2:
$2 \cdot (0.5x^2 + 2x + 2) = 2 \cdot 0$
$x^2 + 4x + 4 = 0$
Можно заметить, что левая часть является полным квадратом: $(x+2)^2 = 0$.
Отсюда следует, что $x+2=0$, то есть $x = -2$.
Также можно было вычислить дискриминант для исходного уравнения ($a=0.5, b=2, c=2$):
$D = b^2 - 4ac = 2^2 - 4 \cdot 0.5 \cdot 2 = 4 - 4 = 0$.
Так как $D = 0$, уравнение имеет один корень, который находится по формуле $x = \frac{-b}{2a}$:
$x = \frac{-2}{2 \cdot 0.5} = \frac{-2}{1} = -2$.
Ответ: -2.
г) Решим уравнение $0.1x^2 - 0.6x + 0.9 = 0$. Для удобства вычислений умножим обе части уравнения на 10:
$10 \cdot (0.1x^2 - 0.6x + 0.9) = 10 \cdot 0$
$x^2 - 6x + 9 = 0$
Левая часть этого уравнения представляет собой полный квадрат: $(x-3)^2 = 0$.
Отсюда $x-3=0$, и корень уравнения равен $x = 3$.
Проверим решение с помощью дискриминанта для преобразованного уравнения ($a=1, b=-6, c=9$):
$D = b^2 - 4ac = (-6)^2 - 4 \cdot 1 \cdot 9 = 36 - 36 = 0$.
