20.8. Голубоватый оттенок теней на снегу в ясный зимний день объясняется совокупностью двух факторов: характером освещения и особенностями человеческого восприятия цвета.
В ясный день на земную поверхность падают два типа света:
1. Прямой солнечный свет. Он воспринимается нами как очень яркий, практически белый, с небольшим желтоватым оттенком.
2. Рассеянный небесный свет. Это солнечный свет, который был рассеян молекулами газов в атмосфере. Согласно закону Рэлея, интенсивность рассеяния света обратно пропорциональна четвертой степени длины волны ($I \sim 1/\lambda^4$). Это значит, что коротковолновые лучи (синие и фиолетовые) рассеиваются гораздо сильнее, чем длинноволновые (красные и желтые). Именно поэтому ясное небо имеет голубой цвет.
Снег, находящийся на открытом, освещенном месте, получает свет от обоих источников. Так как прямой солнечный свет намного интенсивнее рассеянного, снег выглядит ослепительно белым. Наш мозг автоматически настраивает цветовой баланс, принимая этот ярко освещенный снег за эталон белого цвета.
В то же время, на снег в тени (например, от дерева) прямые солнечные лучи не попадают. Единственным источником освещения для него остается рассеянный свет от голубого неба. Соответственно, снег в тени отражает именно этот голубой свет. На фоне ярко-белого снега, который наш мозг считает эталоном, эта освещенная голубым светом область воспринимается как имеющая отчетливый голубоватый оттенок. Этот эффект усиливается за счет цветового контраста.
Ответ: Тени на снегу в ясный день не освещаются прямым солнечным светом, а только рассеянным светом от голубого неба. Поэтому снег в тени отражает голубой свет и кажется нам голубоватым, особенно на контрасте с ярко-белым снегом на солнце.
