Разница в образовании теней в ясный и пасмурный день связана с характером источника света, освещающего предметы на земле.
В ясный солнечный день главным источником света является Солнце. Так как Солнце находится на очень большом расстоянии от Земли, его можно рассматривать как точечный источник света. Световые лучи, исходящие от него, падают на земную поверхность практически параллельно друг другу. Когда на пути этих лучей встречается непрозрачный объект, такой как дерево, он блокирует свет, создавая за собой четко очерченную область, куда свет не проникает. Эта область и есть тень. Из-за одного направленного источника света граница между светом и тенью получается резкой и контрастной, особенно на фоне яркого снега.
В пасмурный день небо затянуто сплошным слоем облаков. Прямой солнечный свет не достигает земли. Вместо этого свет многократно рассеивается на частицах воды или кристаллах льда в облаках. В результате источником света становится вся поверхность облачного неба. Такой источник является не точечным, а протяженным или рассеянным (диффузным). Свет падает на объекты на земле не с одного направления, а со всех сторон. Дерево в этом случае по-прежнему является препятствием для света, но оно блокирует лишь малую часть лучей, идущих с разных точек неба. В область за деревом продолжают попадать лучи со всех остальных направлений. Из-за этого не образуется единой тёмной тени. Вместо этого создается очень большая и слабая полутень, которая практически не отличается по освещенности от окружающего пространства и незаметна для глаза.
Ответ: В ясный день Солнце действует как точечный источник света, отбрасывая от предметов резкие и чёткие тени. В пасмурный день свет рассеивается облаками, и весь небосвод становится огромным рассеянным источником, освещающим предметы со всех сторон, что препятствует образованию заметных теней.
