Это явление объясняется физикой рассеяния света и основами фотографии, а именно понятием экспозиции.
При совершенно ясном, безоблачном небе основными источниками света являются:
- Прямой солнечный свет – очень яркий, направленный источник, создающий резкие и глубокие тени.
- Рассеянный свет от атмосферы – молекулы воздуха рассеивают солнечный свет (преимущественно в синей части спектра, что и делает небо голубым), создавая дополнительную, но менее интенсивную подсветку.
Когда на небе появляются белые облака, ситуация с освещением кардинально меняется. Белые облака состоят из огромного количества микроскопических капель воды или кристалликов льда. Эти частицы значительно крупнее длин волн видимого света, поэтому они рассеивают все длины волн примерно одинаково (рассеяние Ми). Из-за этого облака кажутся нам белыми.
Ключевой момент заключается в том, что облака действуют как огромный естественный рассеиватель (диффузор или софтбокс). Они перехватывают интенсивный прямой солнечный свет и рассеивают его во всех направлениях. В результате:
- Общая освещенность сцены возрастает. К свету от ясного неба и прямому солнечному свету (если он не полностью перекрыт) добавляется мощный поток рассеянного света от всей поверхности облаков. В итоге суммарное количество света, достигающее земли, становится больше, чем при ясном небе.
- Свет становится мягче. Так как свет приходит с большой площади (от всего облака), а не из одной точки (Солнца), тени становятся менее резкими и более светлыми.
В фотографии выдержка – это промежуток времени, в течение которого затвор камеры открыт и свет попадает на светочувствительный элемент (матрицу или плёнку). Чтобы получить правильно экспонированный снимок (не слишком тёмный и не слишком светлый), нужно, чтобы на матрицу попало строго определённое количество света. Это количество зависит от яркости сцены.
Поскольку при наличии белых облаков общая яркость сцены выше, за ту же единицу времени на матрицу попадает больше света. Чтобы компенсировать эту повышенную яркость и не получить пересвеченный (переэкспонированный) кадр, фотограф должен уменьшить общее количество света, попадающего на матрицу. Один из основных способов это сделать — сократить время, на которое открыт затвор, то есть установить меньшую выдержку.
Ответ: Белые облака работают как гигантский естественный рассеиватель, который эффективно рассеивает прямой солнечный свет. Это приводит к значительному увеличению общей освещенности (яркости) фотографируемой сцены по сравнению с ясным небом. Для получения правильно экспонированного кадра при более ярком освещении требуется, чтобы на светочувствительный элемент попало меньше света, что достигается за счет сокращения времени открытия затвора, то есть установки меньшей выдержки.
